A bit about SIMPLY
SIMPLY Pure & Natural was born out of a desire to care for my family with products that are truly pure, natural and simple. I didn't set out to start a business or sell products. I set out to source the healthiest products for my family and along the way I couldn't always find what I wanted, and thus I started making what I wanted for my family. I set out to make products that are healthy and work. Without compromise. No fillers. No toxic ingredients. No trendy ingredients that do more harm than good.
Just pure, natural and simple products.
Every product is handmade by me, with ingredients chosen to support our health and not burden it. Most of the products are made in the traditional way the item was made before mass production of cheaper health compromising products.
Our family is very health conscious and intentional in the way that we live - we personally use every SIMPLY product.

Why I started SIMPLY.
I used to say I’d never sell a product. The margins were too small for too much work. But here I am. So, what changed?
Several years ago, I built and ran my own consulting business — Fourie Employment Relations. I’m an Employment Relations Specialist - the dynamics of the employment relationship, conflict, communication, labour law, and everything in between. It's been a deep passion for a long time. But when we decided to grow our family, I chose to scale down and parent full-time & consult part-time.
Five months pregnant, we moved to Canada. I reduced my consulting with the intention of scaling it back up when the time was right. But just as Elba grew older, my husband Ian’s health took a serious turn — severe eczema followed by topical steroid withdrawal. My life shifted overnight. I went from a consulting professional to full-time caregiver, nurturing my family’s wellbeing like never before.
“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” — Viktor Frankl
In that season, I learned new skills to create a healthy, wholesome life for our family. I learned to cook, to make sourdough, to crochet wool items, to sew, to make shoes — and more. I searched for the purest, most affordable products I could find. And when I couldn’t find what I wanted, I made it myself.
“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms — to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” — Viktor Frankl
Life wasn’t easy. I was a new mom in a new country, with my partner — the pillar of our family — barely surviving each day. I had every reason to sink into survival mode. But I’d spent years cultivating psychological capital. I chose to rise to the challenges. I saw every hardship as an invitation to get creative, to dig deep, and to build a life that felt nourishing, healthy and whole.
I went from an intense academic professional who barely cooked to someone deeply invested in homemaking. I reconnected with my upbringing — farm life, where we made most things ourselves. I redirected my love of learning from employment relations to whatever served my family best. And through that, I created the products that became SIMPLY.
But SIMPLY only exists today because Ian was able to heal — naturally. We’re beyond grateful that he has his health back, and that we can live as the family we always envisioned. But now, with extra wisdom… and some really great products.
I still consult part-time (usually during nap time), but I won’t scale it back up until my littles aren’t so little. As much as I love consulting - every bit of time I spend doing that is time away from my family. I have a desire to do something I can do around my family, and with them.
That’s why it became worth it to make and sell these products. Yes, it’s a lot of work. Yes, the margins are small. But it’s something I believe in. And it’s something I can do with my family, for other families.
My credentials?
I’m a wife, a mom to toddler Elba (with a growing baby bump), and a deep diver into all things life, health, and business. I’m a business owner — both in consulting and here at SIMPLY. I’m an employment relations practitioner, a former university lecturer, and a fertility awareness educator. I hold an Masters in Commerce Cum Laude, with a thesis on “the behaviours that make small business owners successful — and what success really means to them.”
And before all that? I studied somatology — cosmetic science, skin analysis, advanced treatments, and the kind of body care knowledge I never imagined would come full circle. Who would’ve thought that would come in handy all these years later?
Our family background
We're based in Calgary, Alberta Canada. We moved here from South Africa. Elba was born here.
I was born in a small farming town and grew up in our little farming community before moving to the big city - Dubai. And then years later back to South Africa. Then to Canada. I take influence and knowledge from cultures around the world, but several of the products here are largely influenced by the traditional ways things were done on the farm - like the soap.
It's called "boerseep" in South Africa - farmer soap / homesteader soap.
Your support of SIMPLY directly supports our little family and we love connecting with other families with a shared love of intentional living & health.
