Create a Crocheted Unicorn

This unicorn turned out even better than I envisioned!

I made this unicorn as a gift for someone who loves "hot pink" and sparkly things. Today, I'm sharing my experience creating this magical crocheted unicorn.

The Pattern
For this project, I turned to the unicorn pattern from Mama Made Minis Knotted Loveys, a treasure trove of charming crochet designs. Written by Alyson Dratch and Lindsay McNutt, this book is perfect for anyone who loves creating soft, knotted loveys that double as cuddly toys and comforting keepsakes.

So far, I've made the unicorn, monkey, fox, frog and panda from this book. It's really been worth buying it!
The unicorn pattern is clear, well-structured, and beginner-friendly, though it does offer enough detail to keep seasoned crocheters engaged.
Grab your own copy of the book - it is packed with adorable, well-structured patterns
I detailed more information about the patterns in Mama Made Mini's book in my Monkey Blog.
Yarn used

To bring this unicorn to life, I chose Bernat Baby Blanket Sparkle Yarn, a super bulky yarn that’s as soft as a cloud with just the right amount of shimmer. The sparkle adds a magical touch, perfect for a unicorn! Here’s the colours I used:
Main Body: Moonlight Sparkle – A dreamy, pale shade with a subtle silvery shimmer that feels like moonlight woven into every stitch.
Mane, Nose, and Tail: Hot Pink – A bold, playful pop of color to give the unicorn some personality.
Hooves: Sea Side – A soft, muted teal that contrasts beautifully with the main body and adds a touch of whimsy.
Horn: Golden – Because every unicorn deserves a horn that gleams like pure sunshine!
This yarn is a dream to work with—its thickness means the project comes together quickly, and the texture is irresistibly plush, making it ideal for a lovey or a nursery decoration.
Honestly this yarn really is amazing, and it made my work so much nicer. Compare the Unicorn to the monkey I made (I detailed the yarn in the monkey blog and my issues with it).

P.s. I purchased the yarn from Walmart when it was on sale.
Making the unicorn
The pattern is straight forward and because I've made a few of the items from the Mama Made Minis book I am already familiar with the specific technique they use for their Knotted Loveys (like crocheting the neck onto the head).
The only sewing required for this pattern is the arms and horn. The rest of the parts are crocheted on.
Since this was a gift for an older kiddo I used safety eyes. For younger kiddos I embroider on eyes (like I did for the monkey).
I did not find anything in this pattern to be particularly tricky. I initially thought the mane would be because it was my first time making a mane, but it was surprisingly easy to do!

The only parts that are stuffed are the head and the hooves are slightly stuffed.
This project is fun, slightly challenging for beginners and looks awesome!
This crocheted unicorn makes a great gift. The combination of the Mama Made Minis Knotted Loveys pattern and Bernat Baby Blanket Sparkle Yarn makes it a quick, satisfying project with a stunning result. Whether you’re making it as a gift, a nursery decoration, or just to indulge your inner child, it’s a delightful way to spend a few crafting hours.
If you’re ready to create your own, pick-up Mama Made Minis Knotted Loveys and grab some Bernat Baby Blanket Sparkle Yarn (or your choice of super bulky yarn) in your favorite colors.
Happy crocheting, and may your days be filled with a little extra sparkle! 🦄✨
